How to Find Out How a Company Runs a Background Check What Company They Use

How can I find out what company or service a specific firm will use when they run a background check? For example, say I wanted to work at Wal-Mart, how would I find out what company or service they use to run a background check? If I call would they just tell? I need to try to figure this out so I can make sure an expunged record doesn't come up in a check.

You can't, no they wouldn't, and if it is expunged, it's like it never happened.

That would depend on the state. In some states an 'expunged' record is destroyed, but in others there's still a publicly available record of the offense. Also, it's possible for a background check using a private database to turn up conviction records that have been expunged from a state's own records.
