When Can a Minor Get Married in Virginia

My question involves marriage law for the State of: Virginia
Hello, I'm a 16 year old female. I will be 17 in November, and I'm pregnant. My boyfriend is 18 and will be 19 in September. First, I'd like to ask is that considered some type of rape in Virginia that we have had sex at our ages, 16 and 18. Am I allowed to get married in Virginia without parental consent if I am pregnant? What are the chances if so?

The age of consent in VA is 18. There is a close in age exception, but it ONLY applies if BOTH of you were under 18 at the time. If he had reached his 18th birthday at the time (if you had sex ANY time after he was 18 - I'm not just talking about the first time), then he committed a misdemeanor under VA law.

There is currently NO state where a minor under the age of 18 can be married without permission from the your parents, the courts, or both. While you are in one of the few states where "special provisions" can be made if you are pregnant, that does NOT mean that all you have to do is show up with a doctor's note declaring that you are pregnant and all other consent is waived. It means that the state MAY, if it so chooses, grant you permission to marry without written consent from your parents. Or it may not.

As to the chances that the state will grant such permission? The crystal ball is out for repairs.
