Denied Unemployment - How to Appeal

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Kansas

Will try to keep this short but with as much info as i can ....

I was fired/let go from my job in April. I was on vacation out of state from Thurs-Sun ..called in for work that Monday, and would not be able to make it home until Thursday. Ive been with this company for almost 4 years, never had attendance issues, or ever called in. When I spoke to my boss, she said she could not let me do this (calling in) ..by letting me the other girls would too. (Our bank is closing in a few months) I was confused and stated that i have personal issues going on right now & my family needs me ..I am not out here looking for any jobs etc, I am calling in as personal. She said she would talk to HR and would be calling me back the next day.
She called me the next day & pretty much told me they would have to let me go if I wasnt back (the following day). I told her there was no way I would make it back the nexy day ..and asked her there was nothing else I could do? She said unfortunately not. HR says I would have to be back the following day...

2 weeks or so had passed ..started applying and looking for jobs. Nothing. Extremely stressed with bills to pay, and no income.. I was asking my loved ones for help. My friends and family said I should file for UE. So i did.
They sent a letter home with how much I could be getting weekly etc. I was so excited!!! Another seperate mail had a letter attached to where I had to fill out what had happend and my reason for 'termination'. I filled that out and sent it up.. and waited in the meantime.

Weeks had passed & i still continue to file my weekly claims. Finally i had a response. They sent me a letter with "CLAIM BEING DENIED."
First letter said I was disqualified bc I quit or refuse a job with "EMPLOYER NAME".
Second letter was Determination : Claimant is disqualified bc the claimant left work with above employer voluntarily without good cause.
Reason : Claimant quit bc she believed she had been discharged. The claimant did not verify her job status after an absence from work.

After reading that, I was in such confusion. I felt as if my employer had lied. And why would I have just quit??? My boss told me she was letting me go.. if I had a reasonable amt of time to fly back, i would have to not jeopardize my job but I was out of state.

I was told I could do an 'appeal' ...I am not sure what is needed or if I should even go through with it. =/ Ive never been through anything like this and just need some help and advice on rather I should or shouldnt bother.
At the same time, im so mad and want to prove them wrong because they lied about me quitting when they fired me! Im not even caring if I get UE or not at this point, i feel like they turned their backs to me when i was such a good employee for almost 4 years =(
What should I do?

"On vacation" or "family issues"? Which is it?

If it was vacation - was it approved in advance?

I'm just wondering if FMLA could have been a possibility.
