My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Wisconsin
Please bare with me as I have just learned about this and am kind of in panic mode.
I recently found out that there was a money judgment against me that the court found in default because I didn't respond. The reason I didn't respond is because I was never served therefor I had no idea about this judgment. The address they had on file was my old address (moved about a year ago) so I'm thinking they sent all the paperwork to that address.
I'm coming to you guys for assistance for 2 reasons. One, this judgment is false, meaning I owe nothing to Asset Acceptance as I have never dealt with them in my life. Two, what are my options from here on out? Can I appeal a default judgment?
I've never been to court nor do I have any knowledge of the law but I will tell you this, If there is something I can do I will do it because I have a clean record and I intend to keep it that way.
cliffs:
- a debt collection company I have no prior knowledge of sues me
- said company wins in court through default judgment because they had wrong address
- I want to fight this anyway I can.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you
