    Default Hit by Drunk Driver

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Alabama
I was recently in an accident involving a drunk driver who was driving a vehicle that did not belong to her. I managed to get in contact with the owners ins company and they have offered to settle with me for $2150 in pain and suffering and lost wages. They have also agreed to pay 3000$ in future medical treatments. This does not include the money for the vehicle being totaled. Right now I am on short -term disability and leave of absence from work. I am receiving 60% of my regular wages on STD.

My question is does this settlement sound reasonable or should I get a lawyer involved? I'm not looking to get rich of this accident and so far the ins company has picked up the bill on everything, even adding funds to replace a radar detector and GPS that got destroyed in the wreck. My injuries are not life threatening but because of them I am not able to return to work for at least a month.

Most people (friends and Family) I've spoken to seem to advise me to get a lawyer but they are all assuming I'm going to get like a million dollars out of the deal. I'm just really confused and would like some level headed advice

Of course get a lawyer involved!! What are you thinking?

Take the driver to court. Make sure she is charged with the aplicable charges (naturally, D.U.I, criminal neglignece, etc... )

Frankly, you'd be a fool not to get a lawyer involved. It doesn't matter that you won't get millions out of this.

It's possible you might get 5 figures all told, after the lawyer takes his pay.

Well the driver is unemployed. The Owner's insurance company is paying all my medical plus a cash amount for lost wages. They also came back with a figure for my vehicle being totaled which was way higher than the KBB or NADA price. I could sue the driver in Civil Court but the max is $5,000. Also there is no guarantee of payment even if the court decides in my favor. Which means more lawyers and court dates to insure I get compensated.
