Exclamation Divorce From a Disabled Spouse

My question involves divorce in the State of Florida..

My husband is trying to get us divorce and right now iam disable, cant work at all and what SSC gonna send me don't make enough to live. Can i demand alimony??

    -Married for 6 years
    -No shared home
    -No shared accounts
-No shared automobiles (each car titled in each person's name)
    -No children
-Neither have any extra financial accounts (401k, IRA, etc)

Or what can I really demand on my favor because i really cant go on the streets.

You can demand anything you like, but there's no guarantee that you'll get what you want.

Your husband's income will be a large factor - would you mind posting that?

To give yourself some idea of what might happen, read the statutes regarding alimony in chapter 61 at: www.flsenate.gov/STATUTES

At only $500 a month, you are probably going to be getting SSI, correct?

If it is SSI, any alimony that you recieve will affect your SSI since SSI is income based.
For instance, if the court orders alimony of $500.00 per month, you would likely lose all of your SSI, or most of it.

Before you request alimony, get a consult with a local attorney to see what your best options are. You can get a consult for about $25 by caling the Florida Bar Lawyer Referral Service at 1-800-342-8011.

You said in a previous post that next month you will recieve $500 from the SSC.

Is this $500 that you will be recieving SSI, or is it SSDI?
