Default Terminated for Being Late on Rent Payment

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Michigan I was recently fired for being late on my rent. I worked for and lived at the same property. Management claims it is a code of conduct violation for failing to act in accordance with the rules and terms of my lease. However, no where does it state that I could be terminated for this. The only thing it states is that if late, I would forfeit the 20% discount they allow employees. Is this legal?

It is legal to term you for being late on your rent payment, yes. Nothing in the law says that you can only be fired for something if it's written down somewhere.

The fact that you were not told you can be fired for this means it might be easier for you to get unemployment. It does not make the termination illegal.

Agree with cbg - not illegal. File for UI benefits.
