    Default NRMA Theft Database

    Hey everyone,

    (New York)
I was caught shoplifting over a year ago and I posted here and everyone was very helpful and the issue was resolved legally. But, I was recently looking into the theft database because I want to know if my name is on there. I came across the NRMA (National Retail Mutual Association) Theft Database and want to know if this is the one that most stores use. I ask because on the site, they say that minors are not recorded on this database. I was 17 at the time and I want to know if this database is the one Walmart uses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The NRMA doesn't appear to publish a member list, and I doubt that WalMart is going to tell you whether they're a member.

If they put you in the theft database, you should have received some sort of notification from the store. Usually it is a paper saying that they use GIS and you are in the NRMA. (803) 345-9800 is the contact.

Thieves under 18 are not included as per the NTD rules.

Oh but they are. Usually. I have extensive knowledge and have helped develop a database (which pulls from alot of other databases) and juveniles are not 100% excluded.

    Oh, but they are not.

According to http://theftdatabase.com/, the NRMA's official site:

Q: Are juveniles reported to NRMA?

A: No, the NRMA Retail Advisory Board unanimously voted to not include incidents in which the person was under the age of 18 when the theft incident occurred.
While I am sure there are other databases, the NRMA database is definitely the one most used.... by a long shot.

I'm sure you can figure out *some* of the stores that participate by exploring that website. I'd say Zales is pretty obvious.

Most speciality stores use GIS as well as a few big box ones.

Department stores search their own records and subscribe to various databases.

However - while juvenile "hits" are "not reported" they are still in the database AND can be seen using the proper inquiries.

Remember, Target has a crime lab we loan out to the feds. You don't think we get access to juvenile records?

    I am not sure.

Are you saying that a private entity has unlimited access to protected criminal records... those records which are NOT already public knowledge?

That would be a very suspect thing to say.

Further, why would such access answer the OP's question about a non-criminal detention... if NRMA has decided NOT to include the data, the law enforcement community certainly doesn't have it either.
