    Default Medical Bill Responsibility

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: NY

I got a medical bill for several thousand dollars for at home IV Infusion services. When I spoke to the provider they told me that Medicare (my primary insurance) did not cover these services. Even though they had my insurance information before I started receiving treatment, I was not told by the provider that the service was not covered until after my treatments had finished. This seems deceptive and I am not sure if I have any recourse.

They may not have known until they received the explanation of benefits from Medicare. If Medicare does not cover a service, there is a good chance that your secondary will follow their lead.

What was the reason given on the EOB for not covering the service?

Looking at my claims online it does not seem to provide an EOB. However, Medicare not covering home infusion treatments is apparently well known to providers and there have been bills in Congress to address the problem. Unfortunately, as a patient I was unaware of this issue. Had known I would owe several thousand dollars for home infusion I would have had it done in a hospital.
