Default Aftermarket Parts And Insurance
I have a pickup that was recently involved in an accident when another driver made a left turn across my lane causing me to t-bone him. I am a bit worried that my truck may be close to being declared a total loss. I have several aftermarket parts on the truck, most of which come off very quickly and easily such as some standalone plug-in gauges, exhaust tip, the engine has a mileage tune loaded into it and a timing/fueling box (mainly a harness) is also installed. Those parts come off quickly with absolutely no effect on the truck. The only effect of pulling the tuning devices is that engine tuning will return to 100% stock tuning. There are some other parts that will not be as easy to remove, such as an aftermarket turbocharger, cold air intake and upgraded injection pump, but I have stock parts to replace them with. I know that my insurance policy does not cover aftermarket parts, so if the vehicle is totaled, how can I go about swapping the parts out, as they are usable on the truck I may have to replace mine with?

Simply remove them prior to the adjuster looking at the vehicle.

didn't really have the ability, they picked the truck up from the lot sometime before this morning. I don't care what I have to do, I will at least get my parts that are easy to take off if they won't pay extra for their value, which they won't. The only parts that are extra (not on the vehicle at all when stock) are the tuner, fueling/timing box, guages, air compressor and tank.

My truck has been declared a total loss by my insurance company. I am still waiting on the other driver's insurance company to take a look at it. I had it towed from the towing yard to my friend's shop so that we could remove the aftermarket parts I put on and replace them with my saved stock parts since the towing yard would not let us, despite my insurance company giving the towing yard permission to let us do so. It would have been towed to the auto auction lot any minute where I was informed I wouldn't be able to do anything but remove personal items, so having it towed to the shop gave us a heated place to do what we needed to do since it is still my truck until an agreement has been reached with insurance.
