Default Strange Phone Call
I am currently in the process of filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I just received a phone call at work, supposively from someone with the United States Government saying that I have criminal charges being pressed against me for theft and check fraud for getting a payday loan over the internet. The man kept asking me if I was aware of the charges being pressed against me. I told him no, because I was never aware of this. He kept asking me for my attorney's info who was representing me in the case. I have NO idea what this is about. I'm nervous now and shaken up to receive this type of call. How would I find out if criminal charges were being placed against me or if I had a warrant for my arrest??

Default Re: Strange Phone Call
You would want to contact the police station in your jurisdiction to see if you have a warrant.

This does not sound right, though. I've never heard of criminal charges being brought against anyone for obtaining a loan while in bankruptcy. Did the caller identify himself with his name, and the office he purported to be calling from? Did he give you a phone number?

Give the information to your attorney.
