Hi,

I've been lucky enough to have been chosen for two separate programs both of which qualify for a J1 visa.

The first is as a camp counselor from June 16th to August 16th.

The second is on an exchange program at MIT from August 24th-Mid May next year

I have an interview for the first visa already booked and I was wondering what I need to do to obtain the second visa (I have a sponsor for both).

Can I apply for one big visa covering the two J1 categories?

Is there a way to apply for both visas before I leave? (even if I have to leave the country in between visas-I will if I need to but I don't want to)

Is there any special scenario that will allow me to apply for my second visa when I'm in the states?

Or will I have to leave the country and apply for the second visa as soon as I arrive home (can I even book the interview before I leave?) and is it possible to apply for the second visa in such a short space of time?

Thanks

I am an Indian citizen and have been working with the World Bank, Washington DC on G4 Status for the last four years. I have now been accepted for a Phd course by umich, so I will have to change my status to F1.
I intend travelling to India and applying for an F1 Visa there. Do I need to show any document proving my G4 status in the last four years, or my employment with the World Bank ?

I had an SS number. Will it remain valid ?

I have a driving license showing my DC address. Can I simply apply in Michigan for a change of address or will I have to apply anew for a Driving License ?

Thanks.

Hello, I applied for EAD under OPT and just got the card today. But on the expiration date, it shows that I am granted only 4 months?! I think it's because the advisor from my school typed the date I have to work on my DSO. The job I got and she put on is seasonal job which is long only 4 months. If I don't understand wrong, they can give OPT up to 12 months, right? So do you think I can apply OPT again to get totally 12 months? I mean renew the EAD card after this current card expires or reapply OPT. Otherwise, what else should I do? Please anyone know the answers can help me. Thank you.

F Visas: How Will an Arrest Record and Pending Criminal Charge Affect Visa Renewal

Hi there,

First of all, thank you for your time.

I am international student on an F1 visa. Last August, with a lot of coincidences, I have been charged with a 3rd degree felony - False Imprisonment, it was a rough night. The case is still pending at federal court, charged, but not indicted. I am an outstanding student according to the testimony of my adviser and my supervisor, also I have no criminal history. It is a total misunderstanding, but I guess I really should be cautious next time if someone wants to set me up...

DA think what I did is not a 3rd degree felony crime, but somehow, he felt I did something wrong, although he couldn't tell what is wrong, which is understandable, cause at least I am arrested by police. That's why he doesn't want to dismiss the case right now. He is considering to dismiss my case right before I get graduated.

Being alone here, I am really having a tough time. Now I am thinking to go back home for couple months, probably spending some quality time with my family will help me get over it. I will continue my research oversea, get my F1 visa renewed and come back US for graduation.

I have two questions here:

1. Can I get my visa renewed, when I plan to come back, if the case is still pending?
2. What if I wait until the case is dismissed, can I get my F1 visa renewed at that time?

I do appreciate your time!!!

F Visas: Change of Status to F-1 Visa but Wrong Name on Summons ( Traffic Violation)

I hope there is someone to help me. I got convicted for reckless driving in Virginia. Had to pay a fine and 60 days suspended jail time.

My question: I saw on the suommons with the final conviction that they spelled my name wrong. The officer wrote an H. for my middle name ( I dont,' have a middle name at all ) and an "i" instead of an "l" in my last name. I already contacted the court and the woman just told me that she changed it in the system but cannot give me a new summons because the officer filled it out and not her.

I will apply for an F-1 student visa ( change of status from J-1) and I am a little worried that they might not approve it. Not because of what I did. But because of the wrong name.

Does anybody know for what paper I can exactly ask or what I can do now?
I have to write a letter anyway to explain that traffic violation but I do not know whether I should mention that my name is spelled wrong and that it is already fixed in the system but nobody can give me a new paper with my real name. Or should I just leave it like that?

I really, really appreciate any answer I can get since the woman from court doesn't answer anymore. Thank you!!!!
