Hey everyone, this is my first post so I'm sorry if this is under the wrong section.

I'm a graduate of an Illinois public high school and I've been informed I cannot use the facilities (particularly the weight room) that the school offers even if I follow the same procedures that the students must follow (i.e. Having a staff member/coach supervise.)

The school states they have implemented a new insurance policy that omits covering non-students and they can no longer risk the legal repercussions that would come if a non-student were to be injured. Personally, I think this "policy" was fabricated because it was put into place the day AFTER a group of ex students were caught unsupervised in the weight room.

I did a quick Google search trying to find something that mentions this topic, but to no avail. I can't imagine that any single citizen can be legally excluded from any public facility, but I would really appreciate if someone here could help me out.

Thanks!

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Utah

My seven year old daughter was shown child pornography during her computer lab time by another seven year old student. Turns out several other children (10-12) were shown this clip or others like it and were viewing it on their computer. The school has discovered the site that was visited, and was able to add it to our internet filter. The school administrator conducted an investigation and the students who were caught viewing the video were suspended for a few days. I am concerned the school did not handle this properly. We have a social worker, but she was not brought in to interview the students. Should the police have been called in this instance?

Currently my mother has guardianship of my 10 year old niece. Today she decided to remove my niece from school for the remainder of the school year. My mother has no plan to supplement her education for the rest of the year. Legally can my mother withdraw my niece from school for the last 3 weeks of the school year? What are the alternatives and options? Will she have to repeat her current grade?

My question involves education law in the State of: Oregon

I go to school in Oregon. I recently got an email saying my loans were overpaid and now I owe the school $1500 dollars! I can't go back until it is paid. I transferred fall quarter after attending summer quarter at a different school. I am told that I was overpaid because I also received loans at my first school, although I expected them to know this information when I was sent my award letter because it was on my enrollment papers, FAFSA, told to the financial aid office, and academic counselor. But since they failed to pull my records, they overpaid me. I read on a cornell site that it is their responsibility to repay the loan company for overpayment if the overpayment happened even though there as NO information withheld by the student. I didn't withhold information, I told them everything to do with my situation. I am curious on if it is legally my fault or theirs? I am wondering if I'm reading this cornell law wrong.

My question involves civil rights in the State of: Tennessee

I'm a freshman in high school, and I wonder if there's anything I can do about my school. Throughout the year they have caused me severe emotional distress. At the beginning of the year, it was small things, but its progressed.

In February, I was raped by a senior, after school one day. I came to school the next day and told the school security guard, who brought it to the counselor and principal. They didn't want to deal with it, or be held liable, so they had me psychiatrically hospitalized, saying I was suicidal and unsafe around myself - which I have never done anything to suggest that. The people at the hospital kept me less than the usual minimum, because they knew that this wasn't accurate. When I came back to school, they wouldn't let me reenter with out developing a "safety plan", not to keep me safe from the boy, but to keep me safe from myself. Another condition of me staying at school was I had to sign a contract saying I wouldn't discuss what had happened with ANYONE, inside of school, or out.

In April, as I was walking from school to a class I was taking about a mile from school, he raped me again. I told the teacher, as I was bleeding and had several physical injuries, and she brought it to the school. My school said it was my fault because I should have been more careful, and been smart enough to recognize the situation. No one ever called the police, and my mother wouldn't take me to an emergency room.

A few weeks later, my school developed a new safety plan, which will forever be in my file, that states "students is sexually innappropriate to include engaging in sexual intercourse during school, and making allegations against rape."

I now am walked every where I go, and constantly supervised. The boy graduates tomorrow, and no action was ever taken against him.

What can I do?

At my school my principle is a dickhead in other words.

But what he did was call my girlfriend into the office to talk to her about her open campus and if she could go off campus or not.
During the meeting with her he pulled up my grades and told her what I was failing and what I need to do to graduate. And although she is my girlfriend, he has no right to do that. and the ferpa law states that no other student can see personal information including grades, transcripts, medical records, etc. but now he denies that he said it. And the witness that I have is my girlfriend, she wouldnt lie about that either. it mhappened a month ago. just deciding if I should take it to court. just let me know your answer. and get back to me. thanks

Hello,

Residents in Redwood Shores CA approved a Measure C tax in 2005, and this is a direct quote from the bond measure:
" Redwood Shores Neighborhood Schools Measure: To relieve overcrowding at Sandpiper Elementary School and allow every local child to attend a neighborhood elementary school, shall Redwood Shores School Facilities Improvement District of the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District issue $25,000,000 in bonds at legal rates, to acquire and improve land, acquire, construct and equip classrooms, school facilities, labs and libraries, with guaranteed citizen oversight, annual public audits and with all funds spent within Redwood Shores School Facilities Improvement District?"

Currently there are two neighborhood schools. Redwood Shores Elementary was build as a result of the passing of Measure C. Sandpiper was the first school in the city.

This year, the school board has decided to reduce the kindergarten classes from 4 to 3 classes at Sandpiper because some folks(PTA) do not want to have a "mega school". The head of the PTA at Sandpiper is one of the school board member's spouse, and there is a strong belief that she has a part in influencing the decision to reduce one class in order to keep the school small.

As of now, 26 kids from Redwood Shores have been assigned to another school in Belmont as a result of the class reduction(same school district, different city), which is across the freeway. Families are very upset because they have been paying this extra tax for the past 7 years and will continue for the next 23, as it is a 30 year tax commitment.

Families have been very active voicing their concerns and grievance to no avail so far. One board member mentioned to the President of the PTA at a Redwood Shores school that "they can cry me a river", which is not a good sign for us.

Other families with small children who are paying Measure C tax will be shocked to know that they children will not be attending neighborhood schools in the years to come.

Do we have a case to demand a refund of the Measure C contribution as a community and withdraw our agreement to pay any more towards this measure?

Thank you!

Hello, my question is this. A teacher is recording the entire class at a public school, and the video is not being used for any educational purpose that I know of. The only purpose it has is so that the teacher can watch the class remotely when he is not at school. Well, from what I understand Florida is an all-party state, meaning all parties must be in consent to be recorded. If a student in the class does not consent to be recorded, can the teacher get in trouble by administration or law enforcement? Thanks for the help!

My question involves education law in the State of: California

There is a very small private middle school in California that has little to no physical education. Groups are split into two, one doing PE (physical education) and the other doing gardening (gardening is done on this section of land in the school). Most of the time, teachers decide to have meetings and the PE group has to merge with the gardening group. Gardening is not very physically active, its just watering some plants and raking some dead weeds off the floor. On the rare occasion that there is PE, the sports are not very physically demanding. One example is volleyball, 9 to each side, much to large to have a real game going. Many students don't have the ball come to them, leaving them standing in the same place for an hour. Students have tried talking to the teachers to play more fun sports, but they are very stubborn and won't take anyone's opinion (It's almost like they're having fun with this). This problem is getting worse. One year prior, gardening was only required once a week, now its supposed to be twice a week, but its starting to become three (sometimes 4) times a week. Fridays there is no PE. Back to the real question, is it required that they have a minimum amount of PE a week, or at least listen to students?
