my mother just went to a reputable new car dealer and purchased a $10,000 used car from their used car lot. They gave her temp registration and tags. After about 5 days she picked up the new registration and tags. She just noticed that the tags will expire January 2014. That's about 8 months. How can they do this. Shouldn't they have a recent inspection and given her tags that have 2 years on them or at the VERY least- 1 year?

Hello Forum
Truck impounded and CHP said that it was stolen and would be returned to the original owner, now an insurance company.

1. Peobable cause where is the 4th amendment when you need it.
2..Where is the proof?
3.. Won't give back personal property and camper not permantly affixed to the bed.

I aked for probable cause. CHP answer: "I am an investigator for the CHP autho theft division. I am trained to identify
stolen vehicles. I believe you are driving a stolen vehicle and we can arrest you are you can agree to let us take the vehicle for further inspection"

I did all of the DMV & police recomendations before purchasing.

All matching vins including the computer.
Dealer service and oil change verifying vin
Carfax clean
Title name and adress same as seller's ID and home address on valid california tilte marked salvaged.

I purchase at a discount to a same year non salvaged and repaird truck. I get stopped and the undercover CHP (3) say they got me on a tip.

Then they go out and investigate others I identified as working on the truck and ask me and them who changed the vin in the computer. All of us said not us what are you talking about.

Tehn to top it off they tell me I can come and get my personal property. I had my son's truck also a tundra. The say come on into our yard to get your personal property. Iget out and the same officer says:

"I am an investigator for the CHP autho theft division. I am trained to identify stolen vehicles. I believe you are driving a stolen vehicle and we can arrest you are you can agree to let us take the vehicle for further inspection"

ON MY son's truck. 3 hours later they come back out front of their yard and say we made a mistake on your son's truck you can have it back. Of course I had to empty all my personal tools and stuff in their parking lot when they first took it, just as I did originally on my with my trucks seizure.

I want to see proof they didn't make a mistake. I want some legal document that has AJUDICATED that indeed public proof and scrutiny has proved that indeed my truck was a stolen truck.

And that my sturck matching my title just didn't have a stolen replacement motor that they said they used to determine that the whole truck was stolen.

What are my property rights. If only part was stolen and they give my property such as the camper and the rest of the truck to the insurance company wouldn't that be unjust enrichment to the insurance company?

Help what are my rights to have proof. Compared to a dug informant at the time of trial MUST show up to testify to convict. A defendant has a right to question the accuracy of police EVIDENCE. Could use some help, thanks

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Texas (Harris County)

Just over a year ago me and my husband purchased a vehicle from craig's list as an extra junk vehicle to get back and forth to work when we were working on one of our regular cars. The person we purchased it from had the title and signed in front of my husband. We paid in cash, but did get them to sign a bill of sale and the registration application. Had run the vin through carfax and all looked ok.

My husband took all the necessary papers to the tax office and paid the registration fees and taxes, but the title was returned to us saying we need to get the signature of the person listed with "Rights of Survivorship". The name of the person who has these rights is NOT listed on the title and the tax office says they cannot tell us who that person is. Well, we tried to contact the person who we purchased from with no luck over the phone, and i decided to look them up on facebook. I found them on facebook (very uncommon name) and sent them a message with no response. I was able to find the address of the person listed on the title and via google map satellite view we have a picture of that vehicle in front of their house so i'm positive we have the right person.
The person we found via facebook/google is NOT the person we purchased the vehicle from.

My husband drove to the house where he bought the vehicle from to see if they would help. First they wanted us to give them the title and they would go get the signature and give it back to us in a few days. I think NOT. You have already avoided paying the registration taxes by selling us a car you bought and never registered, and pretended to be the person on the title in order to sell the vehicle. When my husband would not just hand over the title, the people were very rude with him and basically shut the door in his face and threatened him.

I finally got a facebook message back from the owner listed on the title (a year later) and she says she sold it 2-3 years ago to some guy who was not my husband and does not know who the person listed with rights of survivorship might be. The tax office is no help and has given us a 2 year window to obtain this signature. I'm not sure what else we can do to transfer this title to our name. Please help!!!

I was sold a car a while ago in the summer of 2012 in Los Angeles County in California with no title. I found the ad on Craigslist. I went to check out the car with a buddy of mine to check out the vehicle. I test drove the car and it caught my eye. I payed him and he signed a bill of sale and he handed me an envelope with just the "Vehicle/Vessel Transfer And Reassignment Form". He didn't give me the pink slip/title. I drove home with no problems.

The next day I was going to the DMV the car's Idle was extremely high and when coming to a stop the idle would drop low and the car would turn off. I went to my friends shop and he said that there's a lot of work that needs to be done to the car and that the cost will be almost as much as i paid for the car. I tried to call the guy back and see if he would give me a refund. It went strait to voice mail. For 3 days I tried getting a hold of him and left messages and still no answer.

I then went to the police station to check the records of the car to see if it was stolen. Turns out that it wasn't stolen. Police officer said that I was scammed and said that there is nothing in their department can further assist me with. The officer recommended to keep the car and find out how to get the title under my name so that I could sell it or fix it. I would really like to sell it and buy a different car.

Will I be able to obtain a pink slip/title and have it transferred under my name so that I could sell it?

Please help.
Thank you.

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Nebraska / Florida

I recently bought a 2010 Toyota back at the end of February, which the registration has yet to be done on. The very next day, it was brought to my attention that my parents had been experiencing some financial problems, which eventually led to them filing for bankruptcy, which is where the part about Florida comes into play. Since I have yet to register the car, which is my first, & we're moving to Florida, am I allowed to wait until we actually MOVE to Florida to register my car? Will I have legal repercussions upon never registering my vehicle in the state I purchased it & owning it two months past the 30 day registration period?

I've had to use my money to help my mother & father keep up on the bills & haven't been able to come up with the money to register the vehicle. With my own bills & helping with there, it's basically impossible. I just don't want to drive all the way to Florida, only to tell me I have to drive back to Nebraska to register the vehicle first.

All help/advice is appreciated. I've been stressed about my own situation, let alone helping my parents. Thanks in advance!

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Colorado
Bank lost signed over title, vehicle not yet registered due to lack of title. Seller is unresponsive. I am currently paying bank for loan for vehicle. What rights do I have as a consumer? DMV insists i get duplicate from seller but I have not able to do this. Bank is not helping retrieve title that they lost. Shouldn't they be concerned that the lien has not been perfected properly? How can I get vehicle registered in my name? (with, of course, the bank as lienholder) I cannot stress enough that it was the bank that lost or misplaced already signed over title.

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: SC

I have a vehicle that I own outright, I have the title and the vehicle property taxes are current.

Due to a period of unemployment I was unable to afford insurance on the vehicle so the state of SC revoked my tag and my drivers license. To get a new tag for this thing they want over $400 in fines, which I can't pay so I want to sell the vehicle and at least get some cash to live on.

I have a friend in North Carolina who wants to buy the car from me, but I want to make sure he'll be able to register it, no point in cursing him with my problems. As far as I'm aware as long as he has the clean title and I give him a bill of sale it shouldn't be a problem, and I can go about trying to straighten things out with SC as I can afford it. Am I right or wrong?

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Arizona.

I sold someone a vehicle in 2010. I signed over title (notarized, signed back of title) and they took the vehicle and the plate. I canceled insurance but was ignorant of state law and let him leave with the license plate (that was the policy in the state I moved from.) Last week, received a letter from local sheriff that vehicle was impounded and I was still legal title-holder. Vehicle had been driven by an unlicensed driver. No one had inquired about said vehicle and it was going to be auctioned. MVD said since I was the last registered owner, I could get a duplicate title and get the vehicle out of impound. I obtained a duplicate title from MVD in my name and went down and picked up the vehicle, and was given it along with a responsibility form stating that I would not allow the vehicle would be operated in any unlawful manner.

So a few days later, the "buyer" of the vehicle contacted me wanting it back. Claims he is legal owner because he has my signed title from 2 years ago. I ask why he never transferred title. "Never got around to it" Upon inspection of the vehicle, learn he has been driving around with my old plate with the registration sticker covered with a metal emblem to hide the fact that it was 2+ years expired. (to avoid registration and insurance costs.) Buyer is threatening to go to police with a stolen property complaint.

Who is the legal owner at this point & what should I do next?

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: pennsylvania

I want to know if there is a way to expedite or shorten the time - I am sure for a fee- the three month suspension, or is the state firm on that policy? I just learned today that mine was suspended when I went to renew it. Long story short: I hate my former bank and their "Auto pay" (Bill Pay) system. Insurance lapped, but not cancelled. The insurance company was helpful and informative, but I can't drive the car until July 2, 2013.
I need serious and realistic options in this matter. I don't want to fill out the MV221 (?) form and purger myself ( I did drive the car without knowledge of the suspension - I travel often with my occupation).
Can any one offer me sound advice or recourse options? I want to make this right?

I live in Illinois and drove out to Indiana (about 200 miles) to pick up a motorcycle that I saw on Craigslist. when I arrive he said he couldn't find the title in his house but he said knew he had it. he then said he would either do a speedy title or try to find it. filled out a bill of sale included that if he found it then you would give it to me, we also had it notarized too. the next day he found it and said he would be mailing it to me. its been 7 business days since and I still haven't received anything in the mail. I text him today about this and he hasn't responded.

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Oklahoma

I'm a college student, and I just bought my first motorcycle from a local guy. I was really excited and ready for it to be mine (first mistake, I know). Throughout the sale, he seemed to have an excuse for everything. The title for the bike was in his mom's name, but she had gifted it to him because she had no desire for it anymore. The tags on it went out in 2009, so it would be over $300 to catch them up. He said he had it taken care of. The note he had from the mechanic didn't work at the Tag Agency, so he used the money that I paid him for the bike to pay to catch the tags up. We wrote up a bill of sale on a piece of notebook paper in his kitchen and we both signed it (no notary present). He said his mom had the title and he would get it from her. The next day, he called saying that she had lost the title. He claimed to have gotten the form from the Tag Agency to get a new title. 2 weeks later I gave him a call to check on it, and he said that they had sent it back because he had forgotten to sign a place on it. So apparently he signed it and sent it back to them. This all seemed fishy to me, so today I went to the Tag Agency and had them pull up the VIN. There were no records of anyone requesting a new title AND THERE WAS A LIEN ON THE TITLE!!!!! There was no mention of this during the sale, so I was pissed. I went to the police station and asked for advice. The lady there said that there could be possible fraud charges for selling mortgaged property.. I went back to the Tag Agency, and one of the ladies in charge heard my story. She pulled me back into her office to talk to me. We talked for a while and she asked me about the lady who's name was on the title, his mother. I suddenly remembered him saying that his mother worked at the court house in town, so I told her. She typed up a REAL bill of sale and told me to go to the court house, find her, tell her there was a mix up, and have her sign it (with a notary present.. Wasn't making that mistake again). So that's exactly what I did. His mother was more than happy to help me out. I bring the official bill of sale back to the Tag Agency, and the helpful lady called the bank where it said the lien was. The lien had been taken out by the son on the mothers bike back in 2009 and still hadn't been paid off.. The guy won't answer the phone when I call him, and I don't know what to do. I'm only in Oklahoma for 2 more weeks, then I'm going home to Virginia for the summer, and I need to get this cleared up before then. Please help.
